Allie asked:

Consider a radio telescope on the ground. Do you think that radio telescopes can observe astronomical objects during the daytime? What if the skies are cloudy, day or night, can a radio telescope observe during these weather conditions? Why or why not?

I am a 14 year old girl and I have always loved science. I really would love to get a telescope. And my mom is making me make a Christmas list soon. So I would love to know what would be a good thing for me. I would like it to not be over 50-60 dollars, as we are not rich. It doesn’t need to be spectacular. Just work.

I’m looking to buy my first telescope. I want one that would allow me to see way beyond the moon but under $500.00. Not too complicated but alot harder than just sticking my eye into the lens. I don’t mind taking the time to learn about it. Could anyone help with a particular brand or brands?

If we were to build receivers into each cellphone in the world, would it produce a strong signal which can be used as one massive radio telescope or would the waves simply not be strong enough to compete with a dedicated radio telescope?
And the next question I guess, would be - could we make use of all the radio towers in the world, combined with all radio telescopes, by syncing them up, and using them as one single unit to peer into the night sky, like one massive, super radio telescope?

Why are telescopes on the surface of the Earth are designed to study visible or radio wavelengths?
Why is it important to place optical telescopes at as high an altitude as possible?
Why is it important to place them as close to the Equator as possible?
Why do we sometimes build more than one of the same telescope in the same location?

Hi,

How many hubble telescopes put in parallel like the “Large Binocular Telescope” you need to take a picture of an exoplanet?
Or how many mirrors the size of Hubble’s you need to connect to take a picture of an exoplanet?

Thanks in advance!

How does the photography in space works? I understand the concept of light speed, that it takes time for the image to arrive? But does that mean the image travels in the light? For instance, in 1995 the Hubble telescope took a photo of the part of the Eagle Nebula but that part of it was destroyed 6000 before! Can someone specify then the process?
Does the image that reaches the Hubble telescope that takes a photo of it, actually travels within the light itself? And THATS whats causing the delay? Because the light itself takes time to reach?
